Observing Your Thoughts and Harnessing their Power

If you start your day peacefully and contented,  you aren’t guaranteed it will end peacefully and contented.

Life happens!

And a lot happens in a day, huh? During our day, things will happen that change our emotions, thoughts, and actions - sometimes slowly,

sometimes quickly!

Your thoughts are fluid. Your emotions are fluid.

You get it. 😉

No matter what, we will constantly be in motion with our thoughts and emotions based on what is happening inside and outside ourselves.

It's our humanness!

Your power lies in observing your thoughts and emotions.

How to Observe Your Thoughts

Observe your thoughts before they become your words or actions.

Like most new habits, this takes practice. It is about learning to know yourself and your mind.

Thoughts can be compared to breathing. You can go a whole day without thinking about or observing your breath or you can intentionally alter your breathing throughout your day. You can make this choice. And you can choose to observe and alter your thoughts.

Observing your thoughts as you move allows you to take actions in your world that you can be happy with. Actions that reflect who you want to be or become.

Try pausing and giving attention to yourself. You may notice a feeling or a stirring in you just before any thought or emotion.

Your thoughts will come and you will have an opportunity to observe them.  Once you have done that, you will have the gift of choosing to act or not and how!

You will have that much more control over your actions.

Our Best Changes from Day to Day

And, of course, I’m also reminded of Don Miguel Ruiz, who wrote The Four Agreements. He explains we try our best every day but to know that our best changes from day to day and sometimes hour by hour!

My best looks different when I am sick or overwhelmed than when I’m feeling good. But on either day, I give it my best. And every day is practice.

Allow yourself the grace and compassion to have fluid thoughts and emotions every day. Because honestly, some days I am living moment to moment to get by, and other days are a breeze!

Under any circumstance, always do your best, no more and no less.
— Don Miguel Ruiz

To practice observing yourself is soooo freeing!

Notice a feeling.

Observe your thoughts.

Choose your behavior.

What are you practicing?

Tell me in the comments, what are you practicing today?
